Armstrong Ceiling Tile - The Basics

Get the decorative effect you want in your kitchen, living room, bathroom or family room with Armstrong ceilings. Choose from these looks in tiles, panels or planks:

  • Tin look
  • Wood look
  • Sculptured plaster
  • Neutral
  • Traditional

The ceiling option you choose will depend on the look you want and the features you need. The price may surprise you too. Armstrong quality is competitively priced, and whether you want to install a ceiling yourself or have someone else do it for you, Armstrong instruction materials and customer support are designed for both the novice and professional installer.

Ceiling Types

  • Tiles - Armstrong ceilings are a no fuss, easy install solution that will keep your loss of ceiling height to a minimum. Available in 12" x 12" squares, these tiles affix to your existing ceiling. What could be easier?
  • Planks - Available in sizes 5" x 48", 5" x 84" and 6" x 48", Armstrong ceiling planks attach to your ceiling like tiles, but create a wholly different look and feel. Use them to crate a wood look or create movement in your room.
  • Panels - Armstrong's panel system works by attaching panels to a suspended grid that's installed below your existing ceiling. If you have the ceiling height to work with, this is a versatile solution because it will make accessing your fixtures a breeze. Recessed ceiling lights look great with this type of ceiling, and they are easier to install too.

Armstrong Ceiling Features

Armstrong ceilings are designed to be safe as well as stylish. Naturally crafted for washability, and fire-retardant and noise reducing properties, some Armstrong tiles have additional features you may be interested in, including:

  • BioBlock - If mold and mildew are a concern at your house, BioBlock may be just the extra protection you're looking for. Treated with a mold inhibitor, BioBlock ceilings give your home extra protection.
  • Vinyl-Coated - Designed for those hard working rooms that get more than their share of spills, dirt and wear. If you have a workhorse kitchen, family room or bath, ask for Armstrong vinyl-coated ceilings.
  • HumiGuard Plus - If you live in a humid area, get the extra protection your ceiling needs against sagging from additional summer moisture with HumiGuard Plus.
  • Extra Sound Reduction - If you love silence but seldom get to experience it, try a ceiling with extra sound reduction. These ceilings absorb up to 60 percent of the sound reaching them, which is very good news if your bedroom is directly over the family bandstand.

Installing an Armstrong Ceiling

With "easy up" Armstrong ceiling tile and plank kits, you'll get everything you need to complete a professional looking installation fast.

Armstrong ceiling tracks can be attached with nails or screws and installed with up to fifty percent fewer nails than standard furring strips. Once the tracks are in place, just slide the tiles on. Plank ceilings are installed directly to furring strips or exposed joists with clips and screws. Most Armstrong tile and plank ceiling materials can be painted with standard latex paint.
