History of Delta Faucets
Alex Manoogian was an immigrant from Turkey that settled in Detroit in the 1920s. Although he spoke five languages, he did not know English and took a job as a general laborer, learning all he could about being a machinist. By 1926 he and two other partners had saved enough to start the Masco Screw Products Company. The partners got a breakthrough when Hudson Motor Cars signed a large contract with Masco Screw. The company grew, and by 1937 had made the Detroit Stock Exchange.
When an inventor brought Alex a prototype single handle faucet in the 1950s Alex bought the rights to the faucet and developed the first successful washerless ball valve faucet. He called it a Delta, because the faucet cam looked like the letter "d". When no plumbing companies were interested in his invention, Manoogian decided to market Delta faucets himself. He hired representatives to sell the faucets to plumbers. The faucets became so popular that plumbing wholesalers began carrying them as well.
By the 1970s Delta had expanded the line of faucets to include:
- Bathroom
- Kitchen
- Two handled washerless faucets
- Various finishes
- High arc spout
They started to advertise their products to consumers as well as plumbers and used both television and print to make the Delta Faucet a household name. They developed the Peerless line for homeowners that wanted to install their own fixtures, and the sales grew as home centers became more popular.
Today the company sells a million faucets a month. They claim strong values, product innovation, and a passion for excellence in all they do.
Delta Kitchen Faucets
Delta has come up with a number of innovative ideas and solutions to common kitchen problems.
- Brilliance Anti-Tarnish Finishes are designed not to corrode and to look like new for the life of the faucet. You can even scrub it with steel wool.
- Electronic Faucets help to conserve water and stop the spread of bacteria and germs. An electronic sensor activates the on/off action of the water without needing to be touched.
- Pivoting Aerator creates a variety of water flows to handle any kitchen chore.
- Touch Clean makes it easy to clean off lime and other buildup on faucets.
- Touch2O technology allows you to turn the water on and off just by tapping the faucet anywhere on the handle or spout.
There are many different styles of faucets. You can use the Faucet Finder to help narrow down the type of faucet that would work best for you. You might also like to look at the Kitchen Photo Gallery to see some of the faucets in use.
Delta Bathroom Faucets
Delta Faucets also brings cutting edge technology to the bathroom. Some of the innovations are:
- Delta Monitor puts an end to an icy blast of cold water when a washing machine is turned on or being scalded whenever a toilet is flushed. The monitor keeps the water with in a +/- 3 degrees for long, comfortable showers.
- H2Okinetic Technology® creates a completely new type of shower experience. The water stays warmer and feels like a conventional shower even with low flow features. Large droplets of water are sprayed in a pattern from many directions to create a relaxing shower.
- Diamond Seal technology means that the faucet will last ten times longer than the industry standard.
You can use Bathroom Fixture Tool to find the fixtures for your perfect bathroom.
