Oceanside Glass Tile History

The company was founded in 1992 when four partners came together to create a medium through which art glass could be incorporated into architecture and interior design. Today the company has more than 500 employees and their collections are extensive.

How the Tile Is Created

Oceanside Glass Tile pioneered the American development of handcrafted glass tile. Each batch is created by dedicated craftsmen and women who transform the raw products into stunning, glimmering tile.

Because one of Oceanside’s key company philosophies is respecting the environment, they make their tiles from silica sand, and up to 86-percent recycled materials, including more than 2 million pounds of glass from curbside recycling programs. The company also recycles glass that is trimmed during their creation process.

These mixtures are heated in gas-fired furnaces. Once it becomes molten, the craftsmen hand-ladle the mixture into iron molds. At this point the tiles, which are in a patty form, are slowly cooled to room temperature, and once cooled the tile patties are hand cut into each individual tile.

Because of their unique production process, the tiles are resistant to freezing and thawing, so they can be used both indoors and out, as well as for pools, fountains and spas.

Oceanside Glass Tile Portfolio

The company’s portfolio consists of eight different lines including glass mosaics, field, decorative accents and trim. They offer more than 40 colors and three finishes, including iridescent, non-iridescent and matte, for all of their tiles. Below are some details of each line.

Tessera

Tessera is a line of mosaic tiles that are cast in more than 40 iridescent and non-iridescent colors, as well as blends and patterns that can be customized. This line is extremely versatile and can be configured into a variety of patterns and border designs.

Facets

Facets is a collection of detailed borders and patterns that feature gem-like mini mosaics. All of the Facets tiles are made to order.

Elevations

With clean lines and a contemporary vibe, the Elevations collection provides a lot of depth and texture to a field of tile.

Casa California

Classic design combines with a California/Mediterranean style for a traditional line of tile. The color palette comes in both translucent and iridescent colors and the line comes with liners and decos that reveal ocean motifs.

Terrain

Influenced by Art Deco design, the Terrain collection features abstract nature motifs that are patterned after nature, such as stylized foliage, geological patterns, and designs that are a stunning complement to other natural materials such as stone, wood and metal.

Haiku

With a watery translucence, the Haiku series provides a quiet color palette in a 5-inch modular format. The collection was inspired by natural textures such as fish scales, willows and jasmine plants.

Geologie

Melding a glass-like luminosity and the earthy texture of slate, the Geologie collection can be configured into a seemingly endless variety of patterns and custom blends.

Mandala

The Mandala luxury tile brand was launched in September 2007, which features original designs in materials sourced from around the world. The Mandala collections include ceramic, porcelain, etched stone, natural stone and fused glass. With an exotic flair and an elegant, luxurious design, the Mandala offers six lines.

  • Labryinth: Etched stone tiles interlock and can be used as accents in small and large spaces
  • Wavelength: Each tile is uniform thickness and the smooth, squared corners are elegant and refined
  • Sinu: Produced in Spain exclusively for Mandala, the Sinu line is hand-glazed ceramic tile with custom-design patterns and three modular sizes
  • Brio: With hand-rubbed artisan finishes, the metallic Oxico and matte Piel tiles are rectified porcelain that come in three sizes
  • Etrusco: Soft to the touch, yet extremely architecturally strong, the Etrusco tiles come from a small quarry in Spain. The line is available in three neutral colors and two sizes
  • Presidio: Fine Italian porcelain mosaic tiles define the Presidio line. Soft colors and subtle striation provide a beautiful textured embossed effect
