For flat surfaces, it takes 1.2 times more paint to use a roller and 2.2 times more paint to use a brush to cover the same surface. If you want to save money on a painting project, spray paint is the way to go.

1. Cover the work area with plastic sheets and tape off any surfaces where you don’t want the color to appear. Spray paint has a tendency to spread over surfaces so be sure to tape and cover thoroughly.

3. Apply a light coat of primer. While it is still wet, sand it with a piece of 800 grit sandpaper. Wipe down the surface with a micro fiber cloth.
4. Apply the color with smooth movements across the surface of the object. Start at the bottom of the object to prevent dropping.
5. Continue painting using several light coats. Use the 800 grit sand paper while the object is still wet. Wipe with a microfiber cloth.
6. Spray a clear coat, if necessary. Then follow up with a sanding with the 800 grit sandpaper, then the 1000, then the 1500 and then the 2000 grit sandpaper.
7. Rub the surface with a rubbing compound to remove the marks from the 2000 grit sand paper.
