Corian is basically a plastic (they call it resin) countertop, while Silestone and other quartz countertops are manufactured rock. They are heavier, harder, usually more scratch and heat resistant than Corian, but some say Corian is easier to repair. It's really a matter of preference more than performance.

-- Contributed by: LindaAccording to BobVilla.com, quartz countertops are made by grinding the stone, combining it with bonding agents and color, heating and compacting it, then putting it into a mold under pressure to make the countertop shape.
