Pollen and Allergies
If you are one of the over 50 million people in the United States suffering from allergies, you are likely familiar with the itchy, watery eyes, runny nose and just plain miserable feeling that is caused by pollen. In fact, it can boggle the mind that something as tiny as pollen can cause so much trouble. So, what do you do during allergy season to protect yourself or your loved ones?
Most likely, you close up your house and kick on the air conditioner. While those who do not suffer as you do get to enjoy the fresh air of spring with windows and doors wide open, you have to keep things closed up tight as if it were still winter outside.
If you have longed for a better way to deal with seasonal allergies in your home, you'll be thrilled to discover PollenTec screen material. Once you have PollenTec screening installed on your home, you can keep those windows open, enjoy the fresh air and turn off that air conditioner. Finally, there is a better way!
Interview About PollenTec Allergy Screens
About PollenTec Screens
Recently, LoveToKnow was able to speak with Paul Honnen of Screens Inc, the North American distributor of PollenTec Screens. Here is what he had to say in this PollenTec allergy screen interview. What are PollenTec screens? PollenTec screens are screen material used on windows and doors to block airborne pollen from entering your home. The material was developed by a 150 year old textile company in Europe which specializes in developing unique textile materials.
What is PollenTec screening made out of?
PollenTec is made from 100 percent polyester that is precisely spun and then put through a patented coating process. It is this combination of precisely spun polyester with the patented coating that attracts pollen spores like a magnet and traps them onto the fine, fibrous grid of the material.
How does the cost compare to standard screens?
They cost about four to five times more than standard screens but about the same as a clear view screen material. However, one of the things that bothered me the most during allergy season, other than a runny nose and itchy eyes, was having our AC running while it was so pleasant outside. The cost for AC in our home is between $400 and $500 per month.
Now we are saving money and keeping our windows open. Across the board, the amount of money people will save in one month on their AC bills will more than pay for the cost of the screens.
Installation and Maintenance
Are PollenTec screens difficult to install?
PollenTec screen material is installed just like any other screen material. We recommend that it be installed by a screening professional or a very handy DIYer.
How would a DIYer find PollenTec screen material to install on their homes?
DIYers can order the PollenTec material directly from us by calling 623-780-2400. We will assist them in calculating the proper square footage needed and we will also help individuals find a rescreening company in their area if necessary.
What type of maintenance is needed?
The PollenTec material should be cleaned at least once a season and, depending on the amount of pollen in your area, perhaps more often. PollenTec material can be cleaned with a mild detergent and a garden hose. You can even vacuum it with a soft brush attachment. Or, for people that live in high-rise buildings, they can give them a shower.
LoveToKnow would like to thank Paul Honnen for taking the time for this interview.
